Rank One’s Patented Single-Frame Liveness Solution Completes iBeta Testing

Denver, CO, U.S.A. – Rank One Computing (ROC) has achieved Level 1 testing compliance for facial Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) standards in accordance with ISO/IEC 30107-3 and tested by iBeta.

Unlike other facial liveness solutions on the market, ROC’s patented approach is entirely sensor and system agnostic, works with images and videos from any source, and returns a highly accurate liveness/anti-spoofing score in less than one second. As previously announced, ROC’s latest release of ROC SDK v2.3 significantly reduced the error rate of its patented, single-frame passive liveness solution by 2x to 5x across different spoof mediums and genuine user presentation categories as compared to its previous version.

According to ROC CEO Scott Swann, “We are proud and excited to have iBeta’s testing compliance as another validation of our growing ID Proofing solutions. Across a range of different facial spoofing techniques, ROC is now delivering better than 99% PAD / spoof detection accuracy. ROC plans to submit its patented, single-frame liveness solution to the NIST FRVT PAD testing series, slated to begin in January 2023. The will continue to invest in improvements that provide users and partners with best-in-class solutions to conform with both ISO/IEC 30107-3 facial PAD standards and ISO/IEC 29794-5 Face Image Quality standards that will be measured in the forthcoming NIST FRVT Specific Image Defect Detection (SIDD) benchmark.

ROC’s approach is protected by US Patent US 10,839,251 B2 “Method and system for implementing image authentication for authenticating persons or items” since June 26, 2017. This foundational patent broadly covers any computer vision liveness approach that analyzes image regions to identify spatial relationships amongst pixels or groups of pixels.

Marion County Schools to Partner with Rank One Computing for New Safety Program

FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) – Marion County Board of Education listened to a presentation about a facial recognition-based program that would serve as an extra safety measure within its schools.

Superintendent of Marion County Schools, Dr. Donna Hage, said that she felt this software would keep those within the school safe without the necessity of a weapon detector.

Rank One Places #1 in the World in Latest NIST FRVT Quality Benchmark

There is an old adage in systems engineering: garbage in, garbage out.

No matter the source of the data used by an analytical system, if it is not captured in a manner conformant with how the algorithms and system were designed then it will not yield an ideal outcome.

Across the vast range of facial recognition use-cases it is critical to prevent “garbage” from undermining the effectiveness of the system. Whether it is border screening applications, online selfie enrollment for banking and enterprise services, law enforcement use cases, or just about any other use of face recognition technology, there is a substantial benefit for preventing face images that are of insufficient quality from ever being processed.

The way to prevent this “garbage” from being processed by a system is to flag bad images at the time of capture, which is the role of automated facial quality algorithms. Factors that may make an image lower quality include heavy blur, occlusions, low resolution, or extreme pose angles.

Effective facial quality algorithms are so important to the deployment of face recognition systems that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) has a dedicated benchmark on “Face Image Quality Assessment”.

ROC delivers on quality

Rank One recently delivered to its customers a substantial improvement to its quality algorithm. This new quality algorithm as also submitted to NIST FRVT and the results are in: Rank One’s latest quality algorithm is #1 in the world!

From the FRVT Quality website leaderboard Rank One is the best overall algorithm at filtering out low quality samples while maintaining a low False Non-Match Rate (FNMR) for the face recognition algorithm:

Per the NIST benchmark, by filtering out images with the lowest 1% in quality the FNMR is reduced from 0.01 to 0.0059. No other vendor is capable of achieving such a reduction in FNMR.

This new quality algorithm, which is available in the latest version of the ROC SDK, provides Rank One’s customers with a simple and effective method for rejecting non-conformant imagery from the system. In addition to this single automated quality metric, the ROC SDK also provides the ability to ensure facial imagery conforms with other specific image quality checks such as the ICAO standard.

Rank One Releases Real-time Face Recognition Video Analytics for Milestone VMS

?Critical infrastructure around the world is securely monitored by video management systems (VMS) that record observations from a large array of security cameras and provide security personnel with live views of the areas being monitored. While these systems provide good value for forensically understanding what happened during critical events or to provide limited real-time awareness of what is happening in monitored areas, human review is not a practical or scalable solution for ensuring proper security posture in most of these deployments.

One of the most important pieces of analytic information from VMS security is to understand whether unauthorized persons are present in a given location or a given time, and to alert necessary personnel when this happens. These systems further need to provide investigators the ability to rapidly search through large archives of security footage to forensically identify persons of interest after an incident has occurred. These problems are solved by integration of face recognition (FR) algorithms with VMS functionality.
